Things to Know Before Investing in the BMW M4

BMW makes some of the best luxury cars, and its M4 is a stunning example. It is a high-performance compact executive vehicle that can work as a convertible and coupe. The car offers the luxury and comfort one expects from a BMW product. If you are planning on purchasing a BMW M4, this guide will help you. Here is a look at the car’s features that make it worth investing in.

Things to Know Before Investing in the BMW M4

Available trims
BMW has now added a CSL limited-edition trim to the M4 lineup that can deliver 40 hp more power than the model placed below it (M4 Competition). It is also 240 pounds lighter. Additional improvements include carbon fiber seats and roof, a titanium exhaust system, and carbon ceramic brakes. Besides the BMW M4 CSL, the other trims are the M4 Standard and M4 Competition.

Exterior styling
The car features a large grille design at the front, which looks overstated and slightly muted in the darkest paint colors. The venting has been done intentionally to feed more air to its twin-turbo engine. The rest of the vehicle body showcases the usual M4 structure with a longer hood and shorter rear deck.

Interior styling
The BMW M4 has a beautiful dashboard made from metallic, wood, or carbon fiber. The infotainment touchscreens and digital instrument cluster are fitted perfectly within the horizontal dashboard. The interior color scheme is black on the base model and lighter beige/electric yellow/tangerine leather and suede on the higher-end ones. The cabin sports accented metal trims that make it look luxurious and classy.

Performance
The base trim boasts a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that can produce up to 473 hp with 406 lb-ft of torque. It supports RWD with a six-speed manual transmission system and can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. The Competition model offers 503 hp with 479 lb-ft of torque and can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Lastly, the higher-end CSL model sports an output of 543 hp.

Suspension
Although the ride quality on the BMW M4 is firm, its suspensions are more compliant and better tuned. The adaptive suspension can handle impacts well, and the overall vibration and noise inside the cabin are on the lower side.

Technology
You get a sleek infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen interface. It has multiple control options (buttons and voice-controlled commands) to adjust the vehicle’s functionality. The steering wheel has its own buttons. Integration for Android Auto and Apple Carplay is available with a music system from Harman/Kardon. In addition, there is a wireless charging pad for charging mobile phones.

Storage
The BMW M4 provides impressive storage. The cargo space on the coupe and convertible are 12 cubic feet and nine cubic feet, respectively. The rear legroom measures 34.5 inches.

Fuel economy
According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), the car offers an estimated combined fuel economy of 19 mpg, with 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.

Safety
There are no crash test reports from the NHTSA or IIHS. But you can rest assured of a safe journey, thanks to automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitors. Additional options include laser-matrix LED headlamps, a head-up display, and adaptive cruise control.

The BMW M4 offers high-end acceleration, grippy handling, and more passenger and cargo space than its competitors. It may thus provide much better value for your money than most other vehicles at a similar price point. While you can choose any trim, note that many prefer the M4 Competition because of the AWD functionality and additional horsepower. Compare different models and choose one that suits your requirement.
