Lubrication Jelly: All You Need to Know
Lubes or lubrication jelly can make sexual penetration easier and sex more pleasurable. It is also a very useful product for women who have vaginal dryness, which can make penetration painful. But it is important to use the right lubricant for best results.
Here is more information on lubrication jelly and its usage for women.
Types of Sexual Lubricants
There are different types of lubricants based on their composition.
- A water-based lubrication jelly may be the best to use inside the vagina.
Its formula doesn’t interfere with the vagina’s pH levels and cause dryness, infections or itchiness. Most water-based lubes contain glycerin, which is usually safe for most women. If you are someone who gets a lot of yeast infections, ask your doctor to suggest a brand without glycerin as an ingredient. Water-based lubes are also best to use with latex condoms as they are least likely of all lubes to cause damage or breakage in the barrier contraceptives. A silicone-based lube is thicker in consistency than water-based formulas. Due to their thickness, they can last longer than other lubes. A silicone lubrication jelly may also be the best option for anal sex. But refrain from using silicone formulas with sex toys made with the same material. An oil-based formula can be effective in minimizing pain during sexual intercourse caused by vaginal dryness. But it is not the best type of lubrication jelly to use with condoms. Oil-based lubricants are also not as readily-available as other types of lubes.
Use and Precautions
When using lubricants during sex, it is important to take certain precautions for safe sex and to prevent vaginal problems.
- If you are trying to use a lube for the first time, try and use different types and brands to find the best one for you. What works for one woman’s vagina may not be the right product for your needs. You might also be allergic to certain ingredients in the lubes. So, trying out different ones will help you find the right product for you.
- Flavored lubes may feel good during oral sex but these formulas can also cause allergies. So, use them with caution. You can also use lubes on your vibrator to enhance your pleasure.
- The lube you use must also work for your partner. Use of a tiny amount of water lubricant inside the tip of the condom is also said to be pleasurable for men. Your partner’s pleasure can also enhance your own. For vaginal penetrative sex, using the lube on the penis instead of inside the vagina can be the best way to use it for women who don’t require too much of it.
- Use the amount as directed on the lube’s packaging. More lube doesn’t necessarily mean more pleasure. Determine the right quantity based on your needs. If you need to use more lube, try adding it in smaller dollops to prevent messiness.
- Silicone lubes require more thorough washing than water-based formulas. Ensure that you have carefully removed all traces of the silicone lubrication jelly from inside your vagina after use.
- If you find the room temperature of the lube uncomfortable, you can rub it between your palms to warm it up before using it.
- Using lubes won’t affect fertility. Some lubes may contain spermicide, which can act as a contraceptive. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor about the brand of lube you can use. Use of lubricants, per say, doesn’t adversely affects fertility.
