2020 Chevrolet Blazer: The crossover SUV that combines style and substance

Chevrolet began making the original Blazer in 1969. Known as the Chevrolet K5 Blazer then, the 2-door large SUV was based on C/K pickup chassis. Chevrolet continued this SUV model until 1994. It was in 2019 that Chevrolet again began manufacturing a new mid-size crossover SUV — the Blazer. The car manufacturing company has started the production line of the latest 2020 Chevrolet Blazer —its new five-passenger crossover SUV. If you want to stand out of the crowd while traveling with your family in a roomy SUV, the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer is for you.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer: The crossover SUV that combines style and substance

The 2020 Chevrolet Blazer
The mid-sized 2020 Chevrolet Blazer has been stylishly designed with sporty driving features. It is quite different from most everyday crossovers with its slick design, chrome accents, and street-oriented performance. On the surface, this sleek yet rugged SUV features a striking stance and ultra-thin LED daytime running lamps that give it an aggressive look. On the inside, it has leather-appointed and suede microfiber seating surfaces.

Newer trim levels
The crossover SUV incorporates a number of changes or upgrades that are not present in previous models. Chevrolet has included a new 230-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to its line up of the Blazer. This new engine fits perfectly well between the previous entry-level 193-hp 2.5-liter (non-turbo) four-cylinder and the optional 308-hp 3.6-liter V-6. The addition of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine has shaken up Blazer’s 2019 line up; so instead of L, 2.5L, 3.6L cloth, 3.6L leather, RS, and Premier trims, now you have L, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, RS, and Premier. The L, 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT come under the Base trim. Thus, you have three exterior personalities (Base, RS, and Premier) to choose from with the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer .

The L and 1LT have the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine; these two are front-wheel-drive only. The 2LT and 3LT come with the new turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and offer all-wheel drive and the V-6 as options. The RS and Premier models come standard with the V-6 along with all-wheel drive.

All the key specs
The 2020 Chevrolet Blazer’s 193-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, 230-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and 308-hp 3.6-liter V-6 can be paired with a nine-speed transmission. But only the V-6 and 230-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine are available with all-wheel drive. On the upside, the four-cylinder version is known to give a smoother and quieter ride with its 18-inch wheels. The Blazer RS with its larger 21-inch wheels tends to thud on bumpy roads.

On most test drives, the Blazer RS with the V-6 all-wheel-drive went from zero to 60 mph in about 6.3 seconds. However, the automatic transmission has been observed to be slow when moved to downshift. The front-wheel-drive can handle up to 1500 pounds and the all-wheel-drive can manage up to 4500 pounds.

Fuel economy
According to EPA estimates, the 4-cylinder 2020 Chevrolet Blazer can earn 22 mpg on city roads and 27 mpg on highways. The front-drive V-6 has a lower fuel efficiency at 20 mpg city and 26 mpg on highways. All the models have engines with stop-start technology for improved fuel efficiency.

Infotainment, interior, and more
The interior of the Chevrolet Blazer has an intuitive climate-control system with round air vents under the center stack. The vents have adjustable temperature settings. All models come with ambient interior lighting, ventilated and heated front seats, and heated rear seats.

Additionally, all the trim levels include an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto capability and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system has an elegant design and user-friendly interface. The system comes standard with a pair of USB ports that are located at the front and on the back of the center console. Also, there is a 4G LTE mobile hotspot along with an eight-speaker Bose audio system, built-in navigation, and wireless charging for phones.

Driver-assistance and safety
The base models of the Chevrolet Blazer do not have driver-assistance systems; however, the other models have blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic alert. The RS and Premier models offer advanced driver-assistance that includes forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
